- Sale!Management and Organization of Indian Universities by: Subhash Chandra Malik
₹1,600.00Original price was: ₹1,600.00.₹1,440.00Current price is: ₹1,440.00.The Indian Institute of Advanced Study organized some decades ago a seminar on management and organization of Indian universities, with the University of Mysore, in Mysore. These are being republished again because the topics are very relevant today although the knitty gritty of numbers and other data statistics has certainly changed; quantitatively this is true but qualitatively the issues remain the same despite the new educational policies and commissions. The essentials of various conflicts within the system, because of a fragmented approach, continue to disrupt the implementation of new educational ideas, policies and commissions. It is a truism to state that educational needs are imperative and their problems need to be dealt with urgently. And yet today, apart from quantitative expansion, we remain substantially where we were at the time of India’s Independence, as far as management and organization of Indian universities are concerned.
There is an increasing need for a practical and detailed consideration of the problem of higher education in the context of its organizational framework. The problems of basic reforms which involve curricula, examinations, research quality and scope of facilities, faculty and student unrest, the problems of denominational institutions, medium of instruction, etc. are also of immediate relevance. One of the major areas in this context is the governance of Indian universities. The pattern of university administration has become obsolete and has never received the kind of specialized consideration and planning. Rules, regulations, techniques and red tape have hampered the real purpose of university education. - Sale!Thinker, Thought and Knowledge in East–West Perspective by: V.N. Misra
₹990.00Original price was: ₹990.00.₹891.00Current price is: ₹891.00.Thinker, Thought and Knowledge critically and analytically reasons that some of the philosophical expositions like “thought has created the thinker” and “higher-order thoughts are themselves conscious” hinder us from explaining our sense of unity of consciousness. This book presents and elucidates some observations — thought cannot create thinker; along with thinker and thought, thinking too is quintessential for individual experience to take place; thinker, thinking and thought are fundamentally one in self-consciousness; thought becomes the object of self-consciousness; and the modern science attempts to undermine the principle of causation — from the East—West perspective, and registers its disproval with the philosophical views of scholars like J. Krishnamurti and a few other modern philosophers. Coming to the knowledge aspect, the volume delineates the relative existence and knowledge dealing with the absolute reality, and discusses it on the basis of Advaita Vedanta and the Yogacara Vijiianavada of the Buddhist philosophy along with Immanuel Kant’s theory of knowledge. The researcher’s approach employed in this volume should help the students of philosophy and other discerning readers take an analytical and critical positioning towards many a philosophical problem that they come across.
- Sale!Rated 5.00 out of 5Integrating Interdisciplinarity through Philosophy by: Ravindra K. S. Choudhary
₹1,900.00Original price was: ₹1,900.00.₹1,710.00Current price is: ₹1,710.00.In the context of current knowledge situation, when every discipline has something to contribute to interdisciplinarity, it seems quite apposite and opportune that philosophy should reinforce and reassert its traditionally cherished role of integrating human knowledge. The Book at hand is an attempt to that end. It is set to take the readers on an enthralling journey across disciplinary boundaries and inspire them to reach a comprehensive conceptual framework for human knowledge at large.
The book delves into the idea and the philosophy of interdisciplinarity, and then unravels the genealogy, dynamics, and myriad configurations of the highly complex phenomenon. It goes on to assess impact, advantages and critical issues involved in interdisciplinarity, while outlining an Indian view of it. The book, thus, explores the conceptual connections, fundamental issues and intrinsic implications of a myriad variety of interdisciplinary study and research, within and beyond academia. The book also attempts to develop necessary theoretical perspectives and a broader conceptual framework in this connection. Ultimately, it seeks to reach, as far as possible, a systematic conceptual account of varied and variegated interdisciplinary studies and researches by integrating them philosophically.
The present work is thus, intended for a wider audience, and not only for the practitioners of philosophy as an academic discipline. It is a must read across the intellectual spectrum, regardless of one’s disciplinary affinities and affiliations. It is wide-ranging in its concerns, far-reaching in implications, and highly resourceful and relevant for generalists as well as specialists, scholars and scientists, researchers and curriculum developers, educational administrators and policy-makers. - Sale!Varadambikaparinaya Campu of Tirumalamba by: Dr. Sujatha Reddy
₹800.00Original price was: ₹800.00.₹720.00Current price is: ₹720.00.Tirumalamba, a poetess of the Vijayanagara Empire, wrote the Varadambikaparinayam, the story of marriage of King Acyuta Deva Rāya, in Sanskrit which forms the 5th volume of the series: Women Writings in Sanskrit.
In the court of King Acyutaraya (1529-42 CE) of Vijayanagara there was a poetess of great merit and her name was Oduva Tirumalamba. She was employed as a reader in the royal court whose duty was perhaps the reading of poetical and other compositions to the ladies of the royal family as well as to the royal court. Tirumalamba was popularly known as Oduva (reader) Tirumalamba. Evidently she was a genius, since she was an excellent musician and grammarian, possessing in addition a good command of rhetoric and diction. She was a scholar of Hindu epics, poetry, drama and philosophy and had other accomplishments also; she was a linguist and could write in many scripts. In addition to all these excellent qualities she must have possessed great beauty, for King Acyutaraya became so enamoured of her that he elevated her to the position of his queen (Rajamahisi).
We learn most of these details from the epilogue to the Varadambika-parinaya-campu, celebrating the wedding of King Acyutaraya and his senior queen Varadambika. It is learnt from epigraphical and other sources that Varadambika was the principal queen (Pattamahisi) of King Acyutaraya. We also learn from the epilogue to the campu that she was a patroness of learned priests, scholars and poets and that she made liberal gifts and endowments to temples and religious institutions.
This poem also describes the birth of Prince Venkatadri, the first born of Varadambika. But it cannot be denied that the work shows that Tirumalamba was a highly educated woman, who wrote for the cultured.
- Sale!Socio-Literary and Cultural Study of Indian Society by: Indra Nath Choudhuri
₹1,500.00Original price was: ₹1,500.00.₹1,350.00Current price is: ₹1,350.00.The Socio-Literary and Cultural Study of Indian Society from Ancient to Modern is a search for India’s heritage: Hindu, Sufi and about Nationalism and India’s freedom from her colonial past. It is analytical but not learnedness. The author believes as Iqbal, the famous Urdu poet, said: “Transcend your reason because though it is a glow, it is not your destination; it can only be the path to the destination show.” People, both Indian and foreign, who want to understand Indian heritage from Ancient to Modern in a simple, agreeable style and friendly manner, is the author’s destination. In this volume, he has tried to demolish many myths like dharma is religion, Vedas are Śruti though the Almighty ordered six ṛṣis to write them down. A Hindu is just not emotional in mind, he also believes in analytic discussion (tarka). Upaniṣads are not just created by ṛṣis but also by a revolution unfolded by the students by barraging questions after questions.By explaining about the vitality of India and many other subjects, the book elucidates many things about the idea of India in an authentic manner. The readers will find here many varieties of theological explication, ultimately leading to the celebration of life while searching for the divine and realizing the self.
