About the Author

Professor Ambika Datta Sharma (b. 1960) is an eminent scholar and emerging philosopher, belonging to the scholastic tradition of Benares. He did his masters (1985) and Doctor of Philosophy (1988) in Philosophy from Banaras Hindu University. He has earned also the degree of Bauddha Darshanacharya (1993) from Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi. He is a well-versed scholar of Indian metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language, and colonial and post-colonial cultural consciousness. He has published many research papers and voluminous works. His book entitled Bauddha Pramana Darshan (2007, 2016) has received special attention for its meta-epistemological enquiry in the field of Indian epistemology. Another anthology entitled Bhartiyata ke Samasik Artha-Sandarbha (2015) has also received wide review and readership in respect of the authentic emancipation of cultural self. For the identification of the post-Independent era of Indian philosophy, he has edited Samekit Darshanik Vimarsh (2005), Samekit Advaita Vimarsh (2005), Bhartiya Darshan Ke 50 Varsh (2006), In Defence of Metaphysics (2008), Samekit Pashchatya Darshan Samiksha (2012), and Vedanta Darshan ke Ayam (2013). He has translated and edited very rare texts into Hindi, i.e. Phanibhushan Tarkvagish’s Nyaya Darshanam (2014) and Jairashi Bhatt’s Tattvopaplvasimha (2015). He has been the recipient of national awards like UGC Research Award (2006) and Naresh Mehta Smriti Vangmay Samman (2007). Apart from a Visiting Fellow of Philosophy of Pune University, Jadavpur University and Calcutta University, he has been nominated as a Visiting Professor (Indian) of Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi for the year of 2017-18. He is editor of Unmilan published by Darshan Pratishthan, Jaipur and chief editor of Madhya Bharti, a journal of humanities and social sciences published by Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Sagar (MP). Presently Prof. Sharma is discharging his services in the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Hari Singh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, as a Professor of Philosophy and General Secretary of Akhil Bhartiya Darshan Parishad.
